Centralized control architecture routes all decision-making through one central controller. Every sensor, switch, and luminaire reports back to this "brain," which then sends commands to the entire system. The biggest advantage is simplicity: one interface, one programming environment, and easy global scene control. For a small boutique hotel with 50–100 lights, this approach can be highly cost-effective and intuitive to manage.
However, the risk is equally clear: the central controller is a single point of failure. If it crashes, loses power, or suffers a network fault, the whole lighting system can go dark. Scalability is another concern-adding hundreds of devices may overwhelm the controller's processing capacity. To mitigate risk, professional designs often include redundant controllers, backup power, and manual override switches. Centralized architecture works best in small homes, retail stores, and single-floor offices where simplicity outweighs the need for fault tolerance. For larger projects, it should be combined with distributed intelligence or hybrid topology.
