All cultivators desire a speedy harvest; therefore, over the past few years, producing maximum Red (R) and Far-Red (FR) light has been seen as the best way to achieve fast growth and early flower. Nevertheless, when it comes to the commercial side of production, fast at the expense of quality is never a good option.
Research published by multiple reputable agronomy sources worldwide shows excess R and FR can create a large detrimental "shade avoidance response". Excess R and FR make plants look great in the beginning, but they rapidly become stretched and weak in structure and appearance. I addition to the weak structure and appearance, the plants will also have lower chlorophyll content, greatly reduced natural immunity and will produce poorly developed with very short (two words) shelf life.
